My journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine actually began after six years of studying musical performance on the cello at University in Adelaide and in Hobart. I was at a crossroads: should I continue studying the cello overseas or pursue a new career path? I knew I had a passion for living a healthy natural lifestyle and a true desire to help others achieve the same, so I completed a course in massage therapy and began practicing as a Remedial Massage Therapist. I was fascinated by the holistic energy system underpinning the use of Tui Na, and wanted to learn more so I enrolled in a Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) at Endeavour College of Natural Health and in 2014 I graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) with distinction.

Japanese style acupuncture is one of the best healings methods in the world.Though its birth was in china it came to japan through korea in the 6th century. Since then it has become a popular practice all over the world. Unlike chinese acupuncture emphasis on herbal medicines, japanese acupuncture gives strong emphasis on touch, abdominal palpation and thinner needles. Japanese acupuncture gives a lot of emphasis on refined sense of touch, making touch and observation a vital point to a diagnosis. It is know to the japanese acupuncture system that abdomen gives us information on whole body and thus easier for the practitioner to determine where the needle is placed. This practice also requires careful locations kills, and use of minimum level of stimulation, giving a patients the sense of relief. This treatment uses thinner needles in the acupuncture points providing the patients feel very less sensation in their bodies as they are inserted shallower on some points.

Each practitioner strives to provide treatment that is complementary, allowing us to work together with other health care professionals, Dr’s and specialist in the field! We support the need for a patient to want to have a great team of professionals helping them. Essence of Health was created by Sandra Sapio in 2002 and is an integrated natural health and medicine clinic. I wanted to create a clinic where patients could come in for a consultation/treatment and leave feeling so much better within themselves; physically, mentally and emotionally and feel a renewed positivity about their current health issues and life. “ I also wanted to create a positive vibe in the clinic that would not only come from how sincere and passionate we all are about what we do, but from patients themselves and how positive they felt about the healthcare we provide.
