Beej is not only a great leader and manager, he’s a talented athlete on the cyclocross, road, track and mountain bike. In fact he’s been a National Masters1 CX Champion.
Beej is very easy to get along with and has a knack for making people who are new to bikes feel warm and welcome.

99 Bikes opened the doors of its first shop in Milton, Brisbane in May 2007. The shop was initially led by Matt Turner and was a small 170m2 space on Milton Road, fitting 99 bikes into the building. Nine is also Matt’s favourite number.
Matt attended a week of Flight Centre Team Leader training and used some mentoring from his father, ‘Skroo’ Turner, and benefited from the initiative and dedication of the original team to evolve the well developed Flight Centre systems to suit bicycle retail.
A team of four worked in the shop at Milton open 7 days a week, 7am – 7pm weekdays. There was one small room 3m x 4m that tripled as a workshop for two mechanics, an accounts office and the stock receiving area.

Store owner and passionate cyclist, Michael “Wooly” Kamahl has steered the store to success over the past 40 years and has greatly contributed to the profile of cyclists in Sydney through vigorous community involvement.
Striking out at the age of 16, he began his lifelong love of bicycles as a mechanic that included a stint servicing bikes outof his ute on the UNSW campus. In 1979 he put it all on the line and opened a retail space in the current location, trading $7 on his first day – off to a flying start!
Wooly has seen it all from the introduction of aluminium, to the death of friction shifters, the start of the carbon wave and the ‘zzzt’ of electronic shifting. Many of the custom built steel framed bikes hand brazed on the premises using specially imported Reynolds tubing are still in circulation today!
