Exchange was established in 2013 with the goal to make specialty coffee accessible, approachable and easy to understand. We are committed to serving coffee that has been sourced sustainably and responsibly, and roasted with care. We choose to work only with roasters that champion quality and transparency; those that make a positive impact on the lives and communities of coffee producers around the world. We brew both espresso and filter coffee, and we stock a diverse range of retail coffee, home brewing gear and accessories.
Alongside coffee, our kitchen and food offering have undergone substantial growth and development. Initially our menu comprised simple, well made sandwiches and pastries, however, we quickly realised that our customer base wanted more.

Pasture raised beef, chicken and eggs, pulses and grains from the Yorke Peninsula, dairy, spirits, wine, beer, pasta, seafood-all farmed or produced here in our state. Our wines are vegan, organic and biodynamic from Barossa and McLaren Vale.
When food has less miles to travel, it results in fresher produce, less carbon emissions and keeps the profits within our state.
Our coffee is small batch roasted, by Monastery right here in Adelaide. It is traceable and above fair trade, allowing the farmers to produce high quality beans and enjoy a better quality fo life. Medium roasted for full flavour, preserving the qualities of the berry (coffee) which highlights the work of the farmers, allowing you to truly taste the terroir of the bean.
We use red gum in our grill from the Adelaide Hills. This gives our food a unique flavour and helps to create the true Banksia experience.
We use native herbs, fish, nuts and fruits, some of which are foraged locally.

Lounders Boatshed was constructed in 1913 by an unknown builder for Mr JW Greenland to accommodate his business of building and repairing boats for sporting and recreational use on the adjacent Torrens Lake. Its length and its clear span accommodated an eight-oared craft of around 18 metres length. Harold Lounder started his apprenticeship as a shipwright in 1922 and took ownership of the business in 1936 until his retirement in 1976. The history is far too lengthy to provide in this document but its significance to local history has prompted the City of Adelaide Council to preserve and restore the boatshed and divided into two tenancies. Tenancy two at the rear of the site for Popeyes River Cruises maintenance workshop and tenancy one, Lounders Boatshed Café overlooking the River Torrens. The building was restored and adapted by Adelaide City Council in 2016, and Lounders Boatshed Café was born in 2017.
