The following is extracted from “East Geelong Golf Club – History – 1923 – 1973”
Meeting called “for the purpose of forming a golf club”, Monday, July 16th, 1923. Present were Messrs. Hill (Chair), J. L. Gibson, Edgar, Murray, Bossence, Walker, Errey, Wilkin, Casey, Vigar, Dr. Wallace, Sgt. O’Donnell, Mrs. Gibson, Mrs. and Miss Redmond. A club was formed under the title “East Geelong Golf Club”, subscriptions were set at one guinea ($2.10) for men and half a guinea ($1.05) for women. Office bearers were elected and the meeting closed “with the understanding that the new links would be available for play on Saturday afternoon, July 21st.”
Club equipment consisted of a hand mower, a wheelbarrow and a few hand tools. Within 10 days of formal proposal membership closed at 180.

Barwon Valley Golf Course is an affordable, picturesque 18 hole public course, bounded by the Barwon River on one side and wetlands with abundant bird life on the other.
It is centrally located approximately 3 kilometres from the City Centre, and is equally suited to both high and low handicap golfers with the flat terrain also making walking a breeze, even though carts are available for hire.
The course is excellently maintained with greens having long been recognised for their extremely high standard. The majority of fairways are also now Santa Anna couch which adds to the overall enjoyment.
Green fee players and new Club members are always welcome and we pride ourselves in promoting a friendly atmosphere for all.
The clubhouse and its facilities, including bar and snacks on match days, provides a great spot to relax and socialize.

The Serbian Golf Club affiliations go back to Janaury 8th, 1978, when Dragan Stanisavljevic and a group of friends started the first Serbian Cup. The group contested the Cup at Queens Park Golf Club and has played the event there ever since.
After the first Serbian Cup a few of the original members got together and formed what is now known as the Serbian Golf Club Geelong. The Club has since grown to over fifty members and play together on a monthly basis.
The Club holds an Annual General Meeting after each Serbian Cup competition where the Club Committee is voted in and ideas on improving the Club are discussed.
During the course of the year, there are two main trophies the members compete for, the Slobodan Mirkovic Medal and Club Champion. The winner of the Slobodan Mirkovic Medal is the member that accumulates the most points for the year. Points are awarded to members depending on where they finish on the leaderboard on a monthly event. The Club Champion is decided by the two best net scores out of the last three monthly events.

Through out my 10 years working in a pro shop on the Bellarine Peninsula, time after time I was asked the following questions from a frazled organiser of a social golf group, “Does your course have a courtesy bus, can you recommend somewhere to stay, can you change my tee time but first I need to ring the other courses to see what they have available?”. Often they had no idea of the area and just needed a little guidance.
Then one day it hit me, wouldn’t it be great if social golf groups who were looking to stay & play on the Bellarine Peninsula, had one person they could contact to organise a golf package for them? That one person could do all of the calling around, booking tee times and accommodation, organising transport for those who needed it, and overall taking the stress away from those wanting to organise a memorable golf getaway.
With my knowledge of the local area, experience in working with golfers and knowing what was important to them, along with the contacts I had made over the years, I knew I was that one person who could assist golfers with planning the perfect stay and play getaway on the Bellarine Peninsula.

In the early 1920’s the Australian Jam Company purchased 405 acres on the Bellarine Peninsula, at what is now 13th Beach Golf Links and established an asparagus farm. The original diesel pump which provided water for irrigation is still beside the 5th tee of The Beach Course. The early 1970’s saw the end of asparagus farming when the property began producing beef cattle. It was then that the property grew to over 830 acres.
1999 saw a joint venture established to create a premium golf and residential precinct on 520 acres. The master plan allowed for 27 holes of golf, clubhouse facility, 150 residential allotments and 150 condominiums.

Our picturesque golf course is located on the eastern bank of the Barwon River in the rapidly growing coastal town and holiday resort of Ocean Grove. The Course sits across the river from the ‘Sea Change’ township of Barwon Heads – and is bounded on the north by the Connewarre State Game Reserve with its abundance of native flora and fauna – in particular a wide variety of bird species. The reserve includes mangroves that are amongst the most southerly in Australia.
Ocean Grove is on the Bellarine Peninsula – 25 minutes from Geelong and 90 minutes from the Melbourne CBD via the Geelong Freeway and the Bellarine Highway. The course is situated very close to motels, camping and caravan accommodation – right next to boat access, fishing and a short walk from the 10km long surf beach stretching from Point Lonsdale to ‘The Bluff’ at Barwon Heads.
